VALLEJO, Calif. (KRON) — A Vallejo business owner is reeling after his auto shop was burglarized.

Francisco Leyva, owner of Panchocisco Tune Car Stereo and Alarm on Sonoma Boulevard, said he is just trying to make a living. Like many other business owners in Vallejo, he says burglars are making it tough for him to make ends meet.

“We, like any other person, we live day by day. No, any lucrative life or anything like that,” Leyva said.

Levya has owned his business for more than 15 years. Early last Tuesday morning, Jan. 16, his heart sank when he was alerted by a neighboring business that there was suspicious activity at his shop.

“I look on one of the cameras that I got, and I see the gate wide open,” Leyva said.

He said several suspects broke through a back window to get inside. Then took at least $15,000 worth of tools and two of his customer’s cars.

Leyva said surveillance video captured from the gas station across the street shows what he believes is a dark sedan used to help commit the thefts and a lookout person nearby. Leyva said the Mercedes SUV that was taken was found disabled a few days later in Berkeley and believes a suspect was arrested. But Vallejo police have not confirmed those details.

Leyva says a stolen older model Honda Accord is still missing.

“We kind of had the feeling they’re gonna break-in sooner or later, because it was so many businesses in the area all over Vallejo,” Leyva said. “And, we were trying to prevent, but I mean, they probably were studying for very long.”

This is the third time Leyva said he has been burglarized and adds this one was the worst.

“It wasn’t that bad before,” Leyva said. “Now this is the worst.”

Making matters worse, Leyva said the early months of the year are typically very slow for business.

“I still got family. I still got two kids on the school. It’s a little tough,” Leyva siad. “It’s a little hard to get bills, rent, and you know, taking care of all the business.”

“Police are guys — they’re good,” Leyva added. “It’s just it’s not enough police — that’s the thing.”

He says most of the loss and damage is not covered by insurance.
