One person injured in Cullman auto garage fire - WAFF

CULLMAN, Ala. (WAFF) - One person was injured in a Cullman business fire on Friday morning.

According to Cullman Police Sgt. Adam Clark, the fire started shortly after 10 a.m. at Just GM Auto and Truck Repair Plus.

Jimbo Hulgan was under a van fixing a gas leak when the cordless impact drill he was using ignited and exploded once he mashed the trigger, setting him on fire.

According to a post made by his daughter, Courtney Mann, one of the men put the fire on his Hulgan’s body out using a fire extinguisher. Mann was grateful for the men who helped her father.

“It could’ve been so much worse had someone not have been right there to help him,” the post read. “The Lord was protecting him when he had to take his shirt off.”

“His complete right arm and shoulder, almost his entire back, most of his stomach and chest is all burned,” the post read.(Courtney Mann)

Mann said in the post that Hulgan had removed his shirt before the fire broke out to prevent any chemical burns from the gas leak. If Hulgan would have worn the shirt it could have melted into his skin.

According to Mann, the right side of her dad’s shorts caught fire causing burns to his thigh.

Hulgan was transported to the Trauma/Burn ICU at UAB. He suffered burns to 20% of his body with mostly 3rd-degree burns.

“His complete right arm and shoulder, almost his entire back, most of his stomach and chest is all burned,” the post read.

Hulgan will have skin grafts on Tuesday.

Just GM Auto & Truck Repair Plus made the following post on Facebook about the incident.

“As most of you have heard our shop caught fire this morning. The good news is we are all ok aside from some burns on our tech Jimbo Hulgan who needs your healing prayers. The bad news is our shop is pretty much a total loss.”

Two vehicles were damaged in the fire. The post reads, that if you have a vehicle at the shop email the business at justgmauto@gmail.com with your name, number and details.

Cullman Fire Rescue responded to the fully engulfed building fire after the flames spread from the car to the rest of the garage.
