A man who was allegedly intoxicated when he struck and killed a motorist changing a tire on a state highway in Gloucester County earlier this month was ordered released from jail for medical reasons while he awaits trial.
Brian K. Caldwell, 48, of Cape May, was driving a pickup truck north on Route 55 in Franklin Township around 12:30 a.m. on July 7 when police say he “failed to maintain a single lane of travel” and struck a car stopped on the side of the roadway and its driver.
Wayne Doharty, 40, of Philadelphia, was working on his disabled vehicle and died of his injuries, police said.
