A billow of smoke filled Derry Borough’s skies Tuesday evening as flames engulfed the building that formerly housed the Ralph Smith & Son Inc. auto repair shop.
The fire began at 8:20 p.m. in the 200 block of West Second Street, according to a Westmoreland County dispatcher. Crews were still working to put it out at 10 p.m.
Firefighters from Derry, Latrobe, Blairsville and Bradenville responded. Crowds of people watched from the bridge above the brick building before police cleared the area.
There were no reported injuries, the dispatcher said. The fire was under control.
