Portland Fire Department battles auto, boat shop fire - Eyewitness News 3

PORTLAND, Conn. (WFSB) - The Portland Fire Department and other towns were fighting a fire at Bill’s Auto Part & Repair at 677 Portland-Cobalt Rd. in Portland.

According to the Portland Fire Department, the building and has significant damage but no one was inside or injured.

The department received reports of a fire around 2:30 this afternoon.

They said the greatest challenge was the lack of hydrants nearby.

Crews had to use tankers from Westfield, Glastonbury and East Hampton Fire Departments to put this fire out.

According to Portland’s fire chief, they called in neighboring towns for assistance.

In total five agencies were on scene and officials say there were chemicals inside the building.

We were notified that there were obviously some acetylene and propane tanks. Which we removed a few from the building. Nothing that, in particular, was under any influence of the fire, because of the quick stop firefighters made.

The fire marshal is investigating.
