SUNNYVALE – Two 20-year-old men have been arrested and a third suspect is being sought in connection with more than two dozen auto burglaries in the Bay Area, authorities said.
Around 8:25 p.m. Monday, officers went to a parking lot on the 100 block of East El Camino Real in Sunnyvale to investigate an auto burglary, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said in a news release.
The first officer to arrive at the scene was driving an unmarked police vehicle. The officer saw the suspects leave in a black car and followed them to another parking lot on the 500 block of East El Camino Real, where they committed another auto burglary, police said.
When the officer tried to stop the suspects, the driver “deliberately rammed” his car into the officer’s vehicle, police said. The suspects then got out of the car and ran away.
The officer was “OK,” the Mountain View Police Department said in a separate news release about the incident.
Two of the suspects were located a short time later. The third suspect remained at large Tuesday afternoon.
Sunnyvale police said the trio may be responsible for as many as 30 additional auto burglaries, though they did not say what led them to that conclusion.
The arrested suspects were booked into Santa Clara County jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and conspiracy.
Anyone with information related to the case can contact Detective Eugene Rosette at 408-730-7100.
