Auto, homeowner insurance shopping declines in Q3 because of hurricane activity: TransUnion - Fox Business

rest.indah.link

A return to the office and commuting could drive insurance shopping activity in 2023, TransUnion said.  (iStock)

Hurricane Ian impacted auto and home insurance activity in the third quarter of 2022, a recent TransUnion report said. As a result of the storm, overall shopping in these markets dipped 2% below the previous quarter

However, insurance activity got a boost from more consumers buying new cars. There was an 11% uptick in automobile sales during the month of October, compared to the same time last year, TransUnion said, citing J.D. Power.

Inflation and higher premium prices also drove consumers to shop for insurance carriers with lower rates, the report said.

"The good news this quarter is that automobile inventories saw signs of relief to better meet pent up consumer demands," Michelle Jackson, senior director of personal property and casualty insurance in TransUnion's insurance business, said. "What's more, the demand itself is likely increasing as more employees are commuting into the office – all of which should have knock-on effects for auto sales and insurance shopping."

If you are looking for ways to save on your home or auto insurance, comparing multiple insurance companies can help you find the best rate. You can visit Credible to shop around and find the best option for you.

MAJORITY OF AMERICANS FEAR A RECESSION IS COMING, SURVEY SAYS

Bundling drives up home insurance shopping

Shopping for homeowners' insurance dipped 1% below second-quarter activity and was down 7% from last year, TransUnion said.

Much of the activity was driven by homebuyers relocating to new states. Lower-cost states with strong economies, such as Texas, Florida and North Carolina, saw the most significant influx of homebuyers.

Consumers looking for lower auto insurance premiums also drove up shopping trends on the home insurance side, led by people looking to bundle their insurance policies together, the TransUnion report said.

Bundling homeowner and auto insurance is one way for consumers to earn a discount and maximize savings in a high-cost environment. To have an insurance bundle, a policyholder must have more than one type of policy with the same insurance provider.

"The motivation to find lower auto rates has also impacted the property insurance industry, with many consumers bundling their policies," TransUnion said. "Those who are trying to find a lower auto insurance premium will likely want to maximize savings by switching their property insurance carrier as well."

If you're looking to lower your insurance costs, you can visit Credible to compare premiums across multiple insurance companies and find the best option for you.

HOME PRICE GROWTH SLOWS IN AUGUST AT THE FASTEST PACE ON RECORD: CASE-SHILLER

Here's what will drive insurance shopping in 2023

Insurance shopping trends in 2023 are likely to be affected by lingering economic concerns. Inflation, rising costs and recession fears will shape how consumers spend their money and "the insurance industry will inevitably be affected," TransUnion said.

Here are two key trends that could impact insurance shopping in 2023, according to TransUnion:

Return to office workforce

As more people return to the office, commuting will increase. This is expected to impact auto sales and insurance shopping, according to TransUnion.

"Office occupancy hit a pandemic high in September, according to data tracked by security firm Kastle Systems, with 10 of the country's top metropolitan areas seeing an average of 47.5% of workers commuting into offices compared with pre-pandemic levels," TransUnion said.

However, shopping activity is likely to be muted by the high costs of buying a car. Vehicle sales are expected to remain flat into 2023.

Homebuying activity may pick up

High mortgage rates and home prices have kept buyers sidelined in 2022, but as prices begin to decline, consumers could return to the market, according to TransUnion.

"Consumers seem to remain optimistic, with 28% of respondents who planned to apply for credit saying they'll seek a new mortgage," TransUnion said. "And younger consumers are feeling good about their own financial futures: Two-thirds of Gen Z and Millennial respondents to the latest TransUnion Consumer Pulse survey reported optimism about their finances."

Comparing multiple homeowners insurance quotes can potentially save you hundreds of dollars per year. You can get a free quote in minutes through Credible's partners.

Michigan car crash survivor sues auto insurance company for caregiver pay - FOX 2 Detroit

rest.indah.link

A ruling this summer requires auto insurance companies to reinstate care for Michigan car crash survivors, but many of those victims are still waiting for anything to change.

"They're trying to put a dollar amount on our lives, and it's not about that. We need the help," Alva Robinson said.

Read: Cuts to insurance law can't be applied to past car crash victims, appeals court rules

Robinson was paralyzed in a car crash more than three decades ago.

"Alva not only deserving but entitled to more than this," attorney Nick Andrews said.

Decades after the crash, Robinson sits in her wheelchair with her 2-year-old grandson in her lap as she talks about what happened, and what she has lost.

"I was in a car accident when I was 19. I don't remember much of it. I kind of lost consciousness, so I don't remember a lot of it," she said. "I was in Receiving Hospital and I was told I couldn't walk."

But because of Michigan's catastrophic claims fund, she had caregivers paid for by Citizens Insurance.

"It was good. I had care 24 hours. It was good," Robinson said.

Then in 2021, due to Michigan's auto no-fault reform, those benefits to pay her caregivers were slashed.

"They reduced it to $6.87 an hour, which is well below minimum wage. Alva was left with the inability to really keep the people who were providing the care. They couldn't work for that," Andrews said.

No caregivers meant Robinson couldn't even get out of bed.

"I'm just stuck in the bed waiting to have to use the bathroom, to eat, get dressed," she said. "Going through this I was very depressed. I had to go live with family because I was afraid to be alone with my thoughts. I didn't know what I would do. It was really bad."

Robinson is among thousands of Michiganders catastrophically injured who no longer had care, but a recent ruling from the Michigan Court of Appeals ordered the insurance companies to reinstate payments to people injured prior to the new law taking effect. The problem is, Andrews says, some like Citizens Insurance, are still refusing to pay.

"Citizens is not following the law and Alva has not been paid her benefits, especially her attendant care benefits, since November of last year," Andrews said.

Robinson is fortunate to have a loving and supportive family to take care of her -- her daughter and young grandson have moved in and others have changed their schedules just to be here for her.

"We were definitely worried, the whole family, so we all took our turn and took our parts to do what we could do to take her out, bring her food, get her changed, whatever we had to do for her,"  Marcus Vaughn said.

The family and Andrews, are now suing Citizens and are still waiting for answers as to why they're not paying, not just for Robinson, but so many others who are not getting the care they need and deserve.

"Citizens' actions really just don't follow what we consider to be good faith in Michigan. It's nothing but bad faith and it has a very real effect on Alva's ability to live her normal life, and that's really what's so awful about what's going on here. They're just not living up to their end of the bargain," Andrews said.

Citizens did not respond to FOX 2's requests for comment.

By Julie Johansen

Emery High School automotive instructor Chandler Peacock took seven high school students to Farmington, New Mexico on Nov. 18 for an automotive competition. Competing against 67 other high school students, three Spartans placed in the top 15.

Kaylum Garrett took seventh, Shane Guymon earned 12th and Braxton Ward came in 14th. Peacock remarked that his team scored more points than quite a few college students. Other students attending the competition were Wyatt Gardner, Tryston Alton, Payton Thomas and Kanyon Allred.

While traveling, the Spartans took the opportunity to stop in Gateway, Colorado at the auto museum. There, they saw a one-of-a-kind Oldsmobile F88 and several other notable vehicles.

Sterling-Knight was to relaunch Warren into auto industry - Warren Tribune Chronicle

rest.indah.link

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is part of a weekly series coordinated by the Trumbull County Historical Society focusing on our region’s history.

An article from the Tribune’s archives published Nov. 20, 1923, vividly described the excitement surrounding the grand opening of the Sterling-Knight automobile showrooms in the Hippodrome building on High Street.

The Sterling-Knight was a luxury automobile designed by James “Pete” Sterling and assembled in Warren from 1923 until 1926. The company produced about 700 cars at its factory on Dietz Road, but only three are known to survive, including a 1925 5-Passenger Sedan that is on exhibit at the National Packard Museum and is part of its permanent collection of historic vehicles.

The Warren Tribune trumpeted news of the establishment of the Sterling-Knight Company in 1923 as “the re-establishment of the automobile industry in Warren,” noting that “this city was one of the pioneers in the automotive industry when the Packard was developed and manufactured here.”

Sterling-Knight’s lineup included five models: a five-passenger phaeton; four-passenger double-coupe sport sedan; five-passenger sedan; four-passenger, four-door sport sedan; and three-passenger roadster. Prices ranged from $1,985 to $2,800.

Sterling-Knight autos were powered by an innovative 6-cylinder internal combustion Knight engine that used sleeve valves instead of the more common poppet valve construction. The Knight engine was first developed by American engineer Charles Yale Knight and patented in England in 1908. Pete Sterling’s long association with the sleeve valve engine began in 1909 when his boss, Cleveland automaker F.B. Stearns, sent him to England to study the Daimler-Knight engine. As chief engineer for Stearns, Sterling was responsible for the engineering behind the Stearns Knight V-8 engine, introduced in 1911.

In 1920, Pete Sterling resigned from the F.B. Stearns Co. with intentions to start his own car company. The Sterling Knight Motor Co. of Cleveland was incorporated in April 1921 with a capitalization of $1 million. The company purchased a plant on Cleveland’s east side and announced plans to manufacture a luxury car at that site, but a post-war recession delayed production, forcing Sterling to seek additional financial backing.

After several Warren-area sources, including Newton A. Wolcott, then the president and co-owner of the Packard Electric Company, provided an additional $1.5 million in capital stock, the Sterling Knight Co. of Warren was incorporated on May 5, 1923. The reorganized company acquired the former Supreme Motors engine plant on Dietz Road. Because that facility was just a few years old and fully equipped to manufacture automobile engines, production began quickly, with the first cars delivered in August 1923.

Except for the engines that were manufactured in-house, Sterling-Knight automobiles were assembled from parts purchased from outside suppliers. Many of those parts came from local sources, including the Philips Custom Body Co. that crafted Sterling-Knight bodies at its factory located in the former General Electric Trumbull Lamp Plant on West Market Street.

Sterling Knight established dealerships in 13 cities across the country, including one in Los Angeles, but sales did not grow as quickly as anticipated. In late 1925, Sterling-Knight encountered serious financial problems that soon proved fatal. After the bank that financed production ran low on funds, Sterling Knight Co. was forced to operate on a cash basis.

Debts, which had been incurred as early as 1924, mounted. The automaker hobbled on nevertheless, and production continued on a much-curtailed basis until mid-1926, when the plant closed for good. Sterling-Knight went bankrupt in December 1926 and the Van Huffel Tube Co. purchased the shuttered factory in October 1928 for $75,000.

With the demise of Sterling-Knight, the promise of “the re-establishment of the automobile industry” in the Warren area faded. Forty years later, in 1966, that promise was resurrected when a white Chevrolet Impala sports sedan rolled off the assembly line in Lordstown. Incidentally, the Tribune Chronicle’s publisher, Helen Hart Hurlburt, who was a lifelong friend and neighbor of the Packard family, purchased that first car built at Lordstown.

Ohlin is director of educational services for the National Packard Museum.

Boyd Files First Entry For Indoor Auto Racing Series - SPEED SPORT - SPEED SPORT

rest.indah.link

TRENTON, N.J. — As a driver, Lenny Boyd of Howell, N.J., won four indoor auto races in his career — two of them inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall and two of them in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Decades later, as a car owner with his wife Donna, Boyd has filed the first official entry for the 2023 Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels with driver Joey Bailey. Bailey will drive their familiar bright yellow No. 1B.

Together, Bailey and the Boyd car have been a formidable team. However, they still lack one thing: an A-Main feature victory.

In response to that fact, Boyd reflected on the recent indoor season.

“No doubt it was our best year ever indoors. Finished fourth in series points, had some good finishes, good time trial results and not a scratch on the car after a three race Indoor Series. Very happy with that. You like to win, but I think we made a marked improvement in performance,” Bailey said.

The Indoor Auto Racing series will kick off its campaign in Allentown, Pa., at the PPL Center on January 6 and 7 with the 7th running of the Ironton Global sponsored events. The TQ midgets will again headline that event along with the slingshots and champ karts, which will run double features at that event.

The Boyd TQ with Bailey is also entered in the NAPA KNOW HOW Atlantic City Gambler’s Classic, the signature event of the Indoor Auto Racing Series. The January weekend will feature a first ever “Double Down” schedule, with two main events and two Gambler’s Classic Cup trophies being handed out for the TQ midgets — one on Friday night and another on Saturday night.

Adding another flair to the weekend and bonus for attendees will include the return of dirt 600 micro sprint racing inside the historic Boardwalk Hall Atlantic City venue for the first time in a decade.

“The 2023 race weekend will be our 20th hosting the event in Atlantic City and we are going all in to make it the best weekend yet,” stated series promoter Len Sammons. “The dirt micro sprint division gives us a different look and hopefully brings in a different group of drivers to experience the fun in Atlantic City.”

Wingless dirt 600 micro sprints will qualify Friday for their feature Saturday. There is also a scheduled Thursday night practice for all divisions. New, restricted rules are in place to limit competition to 600cc micro sprints that run on dirt and eliminate specialty built cars for indoor racing competition on concrete.

Teams entering this division will be required to run Hoosier dirt treaded tires, either a RD20 or the U6SA/ASCS spec compound only.

Danbury approves custom auto shop from Ridgefield businessman - Danbury News Times

rest.indah.link

DANBURY — The city’s newest custom auto service garage has been approved on the east end — across town from an emerging high-end automotive niche clustered near Danbury Municipal Airport and Danbury Fair mall.

“It seems weird to do this (approve the latest custom garage) away from the mall and away from the airport,” joked veteran Zoning Commission member Robert Melillo at a public hearing earlier this month. “We’ve been doing so much of this over there (on the west side), it’s nice to be in a different part of Danbury for a change.”

Melillo was referring to a Ridgefield businessman’s plans to restore vintage and classic off-roaders at a 6,500-square-foot garage on Shelter Rock Road.

"I appreciate everybody’s consideration,” said Robert Madeira at a Nov. 10 zoning hearing, where his plans were approved. “I appreciate everybody’s time this evening.”

Madeira, a self-described old school craftsman, said Danbury’s east end has the right growth potential for his company, Legacy Overland, which specializes in precision restoration of off-roaders, such as Land Cruisers, Mercedes G-wagons and Broncos.

“Mr. Madeira has a very interesting business,” said Thomas Beecher, Madeira’s attorney, during the hearing. “He does some work on classic automobiles but primarily the business is off-road style vehicles.”

The Zoning Commission was interested less in the business model than how it would affect the rest of the neighborhood, which is zoned for light industrial use.

“The retail sale of automobiles is strictly prohibited,” said Theodore Haddad, the zoning commission chairman.

“We understand that,” Beecher said.

To a question about whether Madeira would agree to the condition that no autos in repair would be parked outside, Beecher also agreed.

“To be honest, these vehicles and the parts are too expensive to leave outside lying around,” Beecher said.

Instead, the off-road vehicles will be restored in a custom garage with two car lifts, a handful of restorers, and “plenty of room,” for all aspects of auto repair and restoration, including full body spray-painting, Beecher said.

Madeira, who has a workshop in Portugal and established his first American garage in Greenwich before moving to Ridgefield, said he’s drawn to the old school craftsmanship of “restoring the interior and the leather, and everything; whatever the client wants — that’s what we do.”

Madeira’s garage is the latest contribution to a growing trend of custom and high-end auto businesses, mostly on the west end.

In just the last year, for example, the city has approved new Mercedes-Benz and Infinity dealerships. In addition, a 50,000-square-foot classic car and luxury vehicle restoration and storage facility opened, alongside existing Porsche and Audi dealerships, high-end auto garages, and a film director’s company that recently began producing $600,000 custom sports cars.

Decision on North American auto rules dispute 'imminent', Canada says - Reuters.com

rest.indah.link

MEXICO CITY, Nov 25 (Reuters) - A decision should be made very soon on a dispute pitting Canada and Mexico against the United States on the interpretation of regional trade rules in the auto industry, Canada Minister of International Trade Mary Ng said on Friday.

Canada this year joined Mexico in a complaint against the United States over how to apply automotive sector content requirements under the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) free trade agreement, which came into effect in 2020.

"I'm looking forward to a decision. I understand it's pretty imminent," Ng told Reuters in Mexico City, where she was attending meetings of the Pacific Alliance trade group.

Under USMCA, a deal crafted at the urging of former U.S. President Donald Trump to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), 75% of a vehicle's components are meant to originate in the region to quality for tax-free status.

Mexico and Canada favor a more flexible interpretation of the rules than Washington, and Mexico said in August that dispute panel hearings were beginning. Mexican officials have expressed confidence the panel will favor their arguments.

Ng would not be drawn on whether a decision would come in 2022, and when asked how she expected it to turn out, said:

"Canada is confident from the standpoint of: this is our understanding of how we negotiated the trade agreement."

Ng during her visit also underlined concerns among Canadian investors in Mexico's energy and mining sectors about steps taken by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to tighten state control of energy and natural resources.

Those disagreements have led to a separate energy dispute under USMCA that pits Ottawa and Washington against Mexico.

Ng said she had reminded Mexican officials many affected investors were Canadian pension funds for groups like teachers.

"So it's really important that those investments that have been made here in Mexico are respected in accordance with our trade obligations," she said.

The minister also said she was hopeful that Canada would next year be made an associate member of the Pacific Alliance, whose core members are Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile.

Ng this week said Canada had begun exploratory discussions with Ecuador over a potential free trade agreement. While it was too early to say when a deal could be struck, talks were beginning from "a really good place", she said.

Smartify your car in a pinch with this 70% off deal for the Amazon Echo Auto this Black Friday - Android Police

rest.indah.link
Amazon-Echo-Auto-White-Render
Amazon Echo Auto (1st Gen)
$15 $50 Save $35

The Amazon Echo Auto is a plug-and-play gadget that can turn any car's audio system into an Alexa-enabled smart speaker. It has eight mics to detect your voice commands, and can stream tunes from Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, SiriusXM, and other services. All it needs is an aux connection to the car, or a Bluetooth connection to your phone, which, in turn, streams the music to your car.

Amazon Alexa-enabled smart speakers have been around for years, but they mostly require a wall outlet, forcing you to rely on Alexa-enabled portable speakers when you’re out and about. However, that doesn’t fix the void left during commutes. Amazon’s Echo Auto could be the perfect solution, especially if you have an older car without modern tech like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Also, Amazon is offering the Echo Auto for a steal at just $15 this Black Friday instead of the $50 retail price.

The Echo Auto is a versatile yet simple-to-use gadget that utilizes the Alexa app on your smartphone to play music from your preferred streaming services on your car’s speakers. You aren’t even limited to Amazon Music; The Echo Auto can stream from Spotify, Apple Music, and SiriusXM as well. All it needs is a wired or wireless connection to your smartphone and your car’s infotainment system.

Why is the Echo Auto a good deal at $15?

Amazon has already released the second generation Echo Auto, so it's only natural we see attractive discounts on its predecessor during Black Friday. Although it might sound like an outdated product being a generation behind, it works as advertised and can help convert your average infotainment system into an Alexa-enabled one. With a 70% discount worth $35 applied to the $50 sticker price, it's unlikely you'll find a similar solution bringing Alexa capabilities at a similar price, which is why this deal is a steal.

At $15, the Echo Auto is an incredible proposition in terms of tech per dollar spent. You get eight far-field microphones, an AC vent mount for the gadget, all the cables you might need, and all of Alexa's voice-enabled capabilities like paying for gas, making calls, etc. When not in operation, you can even turn off the Echo Auto's mics. You even get free shipping. What's not to like?

While you decide if this purchase is right for you, go ahead and peruse the many other available audio deals this Black Friday.

TechArt Presents A Very Special GTstreet R At Manila Auto Show - CarScoops

rest.indah.link

The TechArt GTstreet R is one of the most outlandish Porsche 911-based models out there and thanks to a collaboration with a Filipino artist, the tuner has unveiled an especially unique example.

The GTstreet R in question is currently on display at the Manila Auto Salon and features an exterior with artwork from multi-media artist Ronald Ventura. While all of the exterior body panels are identical to a standard GTstreet R, many of them now feature eye-catching black graphics.

This is particularly obvious along the sides where a black pattern stretches up and along the doors but is most obvious with the hood. Ventura has painted an incredible portrait of a tiger’s face complete with bright yellow eyes to match the rest of the car’s exterior.

TechArt hasn’t said if this GTstreet R is owned by Ventura or another enthusiast who lives in the Philippines. Whatever the case may be, it would be a very good idea for the owner to have a clear protective film applied across the hood to ensure it doesn’t deteriorate if left outside.

Read: New TechArt GTstreet R Is A Porsche 992 Turbo-Based Monster With 789 HP

TechArt’s GTstreet R is based around the Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S models and features a new front splitter, redesigned hood, front fender louvers, a carbon fiber rear wing, a redesigned rear bumper, and a carbon fiber diffuser.

The German tuner also went to town on the powertrain of the Porsche, equipping the 3.8-liter flat-six with new turbochargers and upgraded software so it now delivers up to 789 hp and 701 lb-ft (950 Nm) of torque. A version with 700 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque is also available.

The interior of a 911 that goes through the complete GTstreet R transformation is also heavily upgraded with new leather and interior parts.

Just 87 examples of the 992-based GTstree tR are bound for the production line with prices for the upgrades starting at €73,000 ($75,974).

Calgary Auto Show Canceled For 2023, All Canadian Auto Shows Could Be At Risk - CarScoops

rest.indah.link

Organizers announced this week that the Calgary International Auto and Truck Show will not be held in 2023. The auto show cited a lack of vehicles due to the global supply chain disruptions as a reason for the cancelation.

The Calgary Motor Dealers Association made the decision not to hold the show on November 17, at a member meeting. Jim Gillespie, the association’s executive manager, said that there would not be sufficient participation to put on a good show.

“We did have some manufacturers that committed to attending and participating in the show but, quite frankly, there wasn’t enough of them to be fair to those that were going to come, and to be fair to the patrons that want to attend the show,” Gillespie told the Calgary Herald. “It was not going to be the show that we would like to produce. So, unfortunately, it was a tough decision, but the association had no choice.”

Set to take place between March 8 and 12, 2023, next year’s event would have marked the triumphant return of the Calgary International Auto and Truck Show, which was cancelled in 2021 and 2022, due to COVID-19. In addition, the show was cut short due to the pandemic during its 40th anniversary event, in 2020.

The Calgary motor show regularly attracts 75,000 attendees from across Alberta. It frequently hosts 20 manufacturers, who bring a total of 300 vehicles to the show floor. According to Autonews Canada, though, only GM and Nissan committed to participating in the show in 2023.

Held in one of Canada’s largest cities, the cancellation of this year’s show is indicative of a trend that may affect auto shows across the nation. Gillespie claimed that the only major Canadian auto shows that are still set to be hosted this year are the Montreal International Auto Show and the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto. Some of the automakers who spoke to him, though, suggested that they weren’t just pulling out of Calgary.

“I think [Montreal and Toronto are] working very hard to try to move forward with their auto show,” Gillespie said, “but when manufacturers say they’re not going to participate, generally they’re not participating in the country.”

He pointed, specifically, to Ford, which told the Calgary Motor Dealers Association that it will not participate in any Canadian auto shows, and only in a few major American shows. That may explain why the likes of the New England International Auto Show were cancelled this year, too.

Best smart home device deal: Get an Amazon Echo Show 5 and Echo Auto for $99 off - Mashable

rest.indah.link

SAVE $99: As of Nov. 24, the Echo 5 and Echo Auto smart device bundle are $34.99 at Amazon. That's a 74% discount.

What can Amazon's latest Echo Show 5(opens in a new tab) do for you? What can't it do? This multitalented device can wake you up with an artificial sunrise, call your friends, turn up or down the lights, check on your furry friends, meditate, watch Red Bull TV, or play music when you make an entrance. All that functionality is now available on the go with Echo Auto, which brings the voice-activated Alexa into your car.

Both are usually sold separately: the Echo Show 5 is listed at $84.99, and the Echo Auto is $49.99 (for a total of $134.98). But this Black Friday, you can get the whole bundle for $34.99(opens in a new tab) — saving you $99.

If you're looking to bring your home into the 21st century, then the Echo Show 5 is a "no-brainer," as Mashable's reviewer said in October 2022. Redesigned this year for its second generation, it's not as feature-laden as the Echo Show 8, with less features for video calling. But we liked its usefulness as a WFH office assistant, helping with hands-free multitasking. (There's even a Kids edition with additional parental controls and a bevy of fun colors.) Alexa isn't even a voice command away anymore: with new motion activation, Alexa can detect when you're about to wake up and automatically turn on your lights, start your coffee maker, and anything else you can program into your morning routine. Ray Bradbury could never.

Echo Auto brings voice-activated Alexa into your car, via a little black box that sits on your dashboard. Connecting to your smartphone via Bluetooth, you can ask for navigation, music, or hands-free calling via eight microphones tuned to ignore road noise. The last time Echo Auto was close to this price was when it was introduced in 2018; then, it was $24.99, but it's $49.99 on its own — which is why this two-device bundle is worth considering. Check out this deal at Amazon.(opens in a new tab)

Snow College Finishes Non-Conference Slate at Chapman Auto Classic - SnowBadgers.com

rest.indah.link
OPENING TIP

  • No. 11/8 Snow College looks to remain unbeaten as it takes on Arizona Western College and Yavapai College this weekend at the Chapman Auto Thanksgiving Basketball Classic in Yuma, Arizona.

  • The Badgers will take on AWC Friday at 6:30 p.m. followed by a game against Yavapai Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

  • Snow College has ushered in new Head Coach Andrew May to a 7-0 start which is the best start to a season the team has had since it went 13-0 to start the 2018-19 campaign.  That season, the Badgers went on to win its first Region 18 championship since 1970.

  • Snow College allowed just 15 points in the first half to WVCC Saturday, which is the fewest point total the Badgers have allowed in any half all season.

  • Badger's Forward Clayton Southwick recorded a double-double in the victory against CWC finishing with 11 points and 16 rebounds.  It is the Sophomore's first double-double this season and the fourth of his career.

  • As a team, the Badgers shot 66 percent from the field in the second half against CWC, which is the second-highest percentage they have totaled in any half this season.  They shot 73 percent in the second half against Real Salt Lake Academy in the opening game of the season.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • For the second week in a row, Snow College leads the nation in defensive efficiency averaging .746 points per possession.  The Badgers are fifth in the nation in opponents' 3-point percentage and seventh in overall opponents' field goal percentage.  They are 10th in points per game allowed.

  • Snow College is fifth in the nation in 3-pointers made per game with 11.4 while being fourth in offensive rebounds, seventh in total rebounds, and ninth in assists per game with 22.1.

  • At 98.1 points per game, the Badgers are ranked 15th in the country for the category after scoring 100 plus points in four out of their seven games of the season.

  • Snow College has had six players score in double figures in five out of seven games to start the season.  The Badgers currently have six players averaging double figures led by Hayden Franson (minimum of six games played), who averages 14.0 points per game.

  • Snow College has scored 687 points through the first seven games of the season.  The total points scored is the most the team has scored since the 2018-19 season in which they scored 676 points through the first seven games.

ABOUT ARIZONA WESTERN

  • The Matadors have started the season with a perfect 6-0 record.  They have earned victories over Palo Verde College (116-61), Community Christian College (114-60, 122-55), Imperial Valley College (103-37), Southern Nevada (75-57), and Western Wyoming College (82-73).  They will play Glendale Community College Tuesday.

  • AWC averages 102.0 points per game offensively which is good for eighth in the country.  The Matadors are second in field goal percentage shooting 59 percent to start the season.

  • Snow College has played five games against AWC since 2012 and is 1-4 overall in those contests.  After losing the first four games, the Badgers were victorious against the Matadors Nov. 12, 2021, in an 82-78 final score.

ABOUT YAVAPAI COLLEGE

  • The Roughriders have gotten out to a 2-2 start to begin the season.  They have defeated New Mexico Junior College (56-51) and Navajo Technical University (92-75).

  • Yavapai is averaging 67.8 points per game on 43.5 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from deep.  The Roughriders are making 11 3-pointers per game which is good for seventh in the country.

  • The Roughriders last competed in men's basketball during the 2010-11 season.

LAST TIME OUT

The Snow College men's basketball team garnered a pair of victories over Central Wyoming College and Wenatchee Valley Community College over the weekend at the Wright Physical Therapy Shootout.

The Badgers came into the weekend off a convincing victory over No. 2 Florida Southwestern State College.  The victory over the Buccaneers capped off a 5-0 homestand to start the season.

The weekend started with a 102-75 victory over CWC Friday.  Snow College started off slow out of the gate and trailed 13-9 seven minutes into the first half.  The Badgers quickly turned things around and used an 18-1 run to take a 27-14 lead over the next five and a half minutes.

The Badgers would take a 40-25 lead into halftime, a common theme for them so far this season.  Snow College has held a lead in each of the first six games of the season.  The Badgers held the Rustlers to just 31 percent from the field and 14 percent from three in the first half.

Snow College came out firing to start the second half and used a 28-11 run to take a commanding 68-36 lead midway through the period.  The Badgers would keep the pedal down and extend the lead to as much as 37 points with seven minutes to go.

62 of the Badger's 102 total points came in the paint.  Coincidentally enough, the Badgers also received 62 points off the bench.  They torched the nets in the second half to the tune of 66 percent shooting from the field while scoring 62 points in the second half.

Six Badgers scored in double figures led by Dylan Jones who finished with 17 points.  Hayden Franson put in 15 while Chase Potter, Zach Visentin, and Jamir Stephens each finished with 12.  Clayton Southwick added 11 in the win.  This game was the fifth game this season in which the Badgers had six players score in double figures.

Snow College carried that momentum into Saturday's game and defeated WVCC 84-52.  The defense was the story in the first half as the Badgers limited the Knights to just 15 points through the first 20 minutes – the fewest points the Badgers have allowed in any half this season.

The Badger's defense, which leads the nation in points per possession, forced the Knights to shoot just 23 percent from the field and 1-12 from three in the first half.  WVCC made just six shots in the first half as the Badgers shot nearly 50 percent from the field during the same time frame.

Snow College forced 18 turnovers and converted 21 points off those turnovers en route to the 32-point victory to extend the winning streak to start the season to seven games.

Jones once again led the Badgers in scoring as he poured in 18 points off the bench to lead the charge.  Max Triplett scored in double figures for the first time this season with 12, while Southwick added 10 points and five rebounds in the victory.

With the victory, Snow College improves to 7-0 on the season.  The 7-0 start to the season is the Badger's best start to a season since the 2018-19 campaign in which they started 13-0 and went on to win the Region 18 title for the first time since 1970.

The Badgers will now travel to Yuma, Arizona to participate in the Chapman Automotive Thanksgiving Basketball Classic.  The pair of matches will serve as the final two non-conference games before beginning Scenic West Athletic Conference play in December.

KEYS TO THE GAME

  • Take care of the basketball: Snow College as a team averages 14.3 turnovers per game.  AWC, however, is second in the country in steals at 16.2 takeaways per game.  With one of the nation's top offenses, it is imperative the Badgers take care of the basketball and not give the eighth-best point-per-game offense more possessions.

  • Contest every shot: Shooting nearly 60 percent from the field on the season is remarkable, so making things difficult for the Matadors offensively will be a must if the Badgers want to win this game.  AWC averages just 34.3 percent from distance so forcing tough shots away from the basket will go a long way for the Badgers.

UP NEXT

  • Having wrapped up non-conference play, the Badgers will begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play by taking on the College of Southern Nevada in a pair of games Dec. 2 and 3 in Henderson, Nevada.

  • The Coyotes are 3-6 to start the season with victories over Phoenix College (99-93, 88-82), and Eastern Arizona College (95-92).  They started out losing their first four games but have won three of their last five games.

  • CSN will also be participating in the Chapman Auto Thanksgiving Basketball Classic this weekend playing Yavapai and AWC as well.

  • The game on Dec. 2 will tip off at 8:00 p.m. with the Dec. 3 game set to start at 4:00 p.m. MST.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
